This machine has smart wire feeding technology to prevent forcing excessive wire into the start of the weld. When the machine is not welding and feeding wire, it will feed wire at a slow fixed speed for approximately five seconds, and then speed up to max speed. This is to quickly feed wire through the torch. Once the machine senses that it is welding it will automatically run at the preset wire speed that the user has set on the machine. Do not be alarmed when the wire feeds slowly while not welding.

Precision Drive Motor

The drive roller mechanism, which is the heart of any MIG welder, is designed to our high specifications and delivers flawless wire feed without skipping or slipping on the wire. That's why the MIG 180 has a quality METAL drive motor. This means you'll get a great puddle and solid welds without having to go back and "touch up" spots. Beware of other units with much lower quality equipment!

Eastwood 180 Amp MIG Welder with Included Spool Gun (4)

All-Around Steel and Aluminum MIG Welder

The MIG 180 comes complete (except for the gas cylinder) and is ready to weld 24 gauge to 5/16-inch mild steel and stainless. Connect the spool gun and you can also weld 14 gauge to 1/4-inch aluminum. With a 30 to 180 amp welding range, this high-quality MIG welding machine has a 30 percent duty cycle at 180 amps and a 60 percent duty cycle at 65 amps, giving you the power needed for tough projects.

The metal drive motor feeds the wire smoothly for the best operation and the infinitely adjustable wire speed and heat settings allows you to precisely control the machine. If you don't have a gas bottle, or are away from your shop, use the flux core wire for your welding project. Plus the ability to connect to either 240 or 120 volts makes this an incredibly versatile machine for any garage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Fred from MIG 180 w Spool Gun Finally got my shielding gas and cranked this baby up!! First time welding in 15 years and have never done aluminum before. Loaded the spool gun up and hit it. First try looked like bubble gum!!! Tweaked it a bit, second pass was great!! Now, I’m a nobody when it comes to welding (was forced into welding when the company combined the trades) but I’m impressed with this machine. I wanted the 200i machine but it was out of stock. Now I’m not sorry I got this one!!Thanks Eastwood Fred

Rated 5 out of 5 by Ginger of all trades from Awesome little welder for a great price! I was in the market for a spoolgun for my Miller 135. Had some aluminum work to do and needed one. Well til I went through with that, I would have been out about $2k. Then I came across this sweet combo and didn’t think twice. Been using it quite a bit, and I would give the duty cycle a better rating personally, cause it burns through stuff before it runs out of snot! The mig side of it works great too, stays consistent and looks pretty when it’s all said and done too. 5 stars from me.

I see that you are recommending a minimum 10k generator and saying that it does not matter the type, inverter or traditional. Why is this? What is the minimum THD for this welder?

Asked by: Malik

We do not have a minimum recommended THD specification for this welder. We have never heard of or encountered problems from THD on a generator.

Are spool guns worth it? ›

A spool gun is really great for somebody who is doing a lot of longs runs and needs something portable. You are less likely to have a burn back issue with the spool gun than you are with a regular MIG gun because it has to feed “x” amount of feet and everything is driven by the welder itself.

Should you push or pull with aluminum spool gun? ›

In general, if you're planning on doing lots of aluminium welding or welding it for long periods in one go, a Push-Pull gun is for you. However, if you need to swap between materials often, then a Push-Pull gun can be a pain. You'll lose all the wire still inside the gun every time you switch before finishing a spool.

What is the hardest welding to learn? ›

TIG welding is the hardest form of welding to learn for a variety of reasons. The process of TIG welding is slow and takes time to get used to as a beginner. A TIG welder requires a foot pedal to feed the electrode and control the variable amperage while maintaining a steady hand at the welding torch.

Should my first welder be MIG or stick? ›

MIG welding is much easier for a beginner to learn than stick welding. However, setting up MIG welding equipment can be quite complex as there are a number of variables to consider, including wire size and type, gas, contact tips, and nozzle type.
